Psalm 2:8 Commentary – “Jesus Owns ALL Nations” 👑

Psalm 2.8 commentary
Jesus has inherited… well, pretty much everything!

What Does Psalm 2:8 Mean?

Psalm 2:88 Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession.

David is quoting the Son who is quoting the Father talking to the Son. The Father tells the Son, “Just ask, and I’ll give you the nations!” Not a bad deal!

What Does the Son Get? All Nations!

The Son continues His quote of what the Father told Him. Evidentially, Jesus did ask because of what Daniel reveals about the Son of Man in his vision.

Daniel 7:9 9 “As I looked, thrones were placed, and the Ancient of Days took his seat; his clothing was white as snow, and the hair of his head like pure wool; his throne was fiery flames; its wheels were burning fire.

Daniel 7:13–14 13 “I saw in the night visions, and behold, with the clouds of heaven there came one like a son of man, and he came to the Ancient of Days and was presented before him. 14 And to him was given dominion and glory and a kingdom, that all peoples, nations, and languages should serve him; his dominion is an everlasting dominion, which shall not pass away, and his kingdom one that shall not be destroyed.

psalm 2:8 commentary nations
Sorry, not all the countries are filled in. Psalm 2:8 commentary.

Here is a ceremony in eternity of God the Father (Ancient of Days) giving to God the Son (the Son of Man) all nations, just as Psalm 2:8 says. This is the decree of God; it most certainly will come about.

And so it’s no wonder, Jesus commissions us to preach the gospel and make disciples of all the nations (Matthew 28:18-20)!

  • In light of the coming kingdom when Jesus receives all the glory, preach the gospel!
  • In light of the fact that Jesus will rule wherever the sun does his successive journeys run, preach the gospel!
  • And in light of the fact, that Jesus is coming again to receive this kingdom from His father, preach the gospel!

And that’s because the Father will most certainly give to the Son all nations. It will take place as He has spoken…

Revelation 12:5 5 She gave birth to a male child, one who is to rule all the nations with a rod of iron, but her child was caught up to God and to his throne,

Revelation 19:15 15 From his mouth comes a sharp sword with which to strike down the nations, and he will rule them with a rod of iron. He will tread the winepress of the fury of the wrath of God the Almighty.

But that rule is not just for Him … Rev. 2:26 Jesus takes what is His and also confers it to certain ones.

Revelation 2:2626 The one who conquers (these are Christians) and who keeps my works until the end, to him I will give authority over the nations,

Coheirs! Joint heirs with Christ! From rags to riches, the most beautiful, glorious story!

Don’t let the news of rebellious nations trouble you. Instead, cling to the One who will rule all nations.

The next verse describes what Jesus will do to the rebellious nations.

Not pretty, find out in our study of Psalm 2:9!
